Welcome to Knutson Law Offices (“KLO Law Firm”), a client-centered litigation and legal advice/consulting firm. Founder and Attorney Ryan Knutson has spent more than a decade as the people's lawyer, litigating and winning cases on behalf of people from all walks of life experiencing some of the most difficult times in their lives: The tenant wrongfully evicted and deprived of their home, the small business locked out by their landlord, the beneficiary fighting for their rights to an estate, the teacher or professor denied due process in a Title IX investigation, the citizen denied constitutional rights by the government.

About Ryan Knutson
At Knutson Law Offices, Attorney Ryan Knutson, associates, and staff are committed to serving you and your family as your trusted advisors. Mr. Knutson works directly with clients to provide quality legal services, advice, consulting, and representation before and at trial in landlord-tenant, real estate, probate/estate litigation, conservatorship and elder law matters, and Civil Rights and Title IX sexual assault and harassment investigations and litigation. Having worked at numerous prosecutors offices, civil litigation firms, and public interest oriented organizations, Mr. Knutson brings more than a decade of expertise in both civil and criminal matters to his firm. Mr. Knutson focuses on providing personalized attention to each individual he serves and their legal needs. He knows the value of personal relationships and strives to build and maintain them with each of his clients.
Since his earliest days as a police officer cadet, he has built a reputation for hard work, effectiveness, and compassion. Having lived in, worked in, and visited nearly a dozen countries, Mr. Knutson is fluent in Spanish and understands the global and social context behind every legal problem, no matter how small or large, that his clients may face. His understanding of the judicial system and work in community social and political issues gives him a unique edge in understanding the dynamics of any case.
During law school, Mr. Knutson clerked at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, and at a San Francisco immigration law firm. Mr. Knutson also clerked for world-renowned Chilean Appeals Court judge Juan Guzman Tapia, the first Chilean judge to indict former Chilean Dictator Augusto Pinochet in the early 2000’s. Mr. Knutson’s clerkship with Judge Guzman culminated in the drafting of a major thesis on Democratic Reform and the Rule of Law in Chile, Argentina, and El Salvador during and after these countries’ dictatorships and civil wars. While in Chile, Mr. Knutson also studied and worked in international law, democratic constitutional reform, and the law of armed conflict as part of California Western School of Law’s International Law abroad program.
Mr. Knutson is a graduate of Sonoma State University, Cum Laude (BA History, Latin American Studies, 2012), and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Golden Gate University School of Law (JD 2015.) He was admitted to the California Bar in 2016. Mr. Knutson is licensed to practice in all California state and federal courts and before the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.
Mr. Knutson has been named to Super Lawyers’ Northern California Rising Stars List for 2022, 2023, and 2024, California’s Best Regional Civil/Probate Attorneys by Expertise.com, the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Attorneys, and was most recently honored with an award by the Alameda County Bar Association for Barrister's Distinguished Service. Mr. Knutson has also been awarded the Advocate Designation by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Mr. Knutson has also been recognized nationally for his work in mental health law and conservatorship litigation. Mr. Knutson is also a member and former chair of the Alameda County Bar Association’s Barrister’s Section.
After time spent working as an attorney leading teams at non-profit civil rights firms and insurance defense litigation firms, Mr. Knutson opened Knutson Law Offices in 2019 to serve the needs of individual and business clients in landlord-tenant, real estate, probate and estate litigation, conservatorship litigation, and Civil Rights and Title IX sexual assault and harassment investigations and litigation.
The constant in Mr. Knutson’s career is a commitment to serve others, to counsel and represent others fighting for their rights in court, and to fight for and win fair and just treatment under the law for all, no matter your age, race, disability, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or immigration status.
